Planning a wedding abroad can seem like a daunting task, but you can save lots of time and prevent errors by following some of these useful tips:

1 Above all else, make sure to visit the location prior to making it your final choice. Oftentimes places can appear very different in photos than it does in real life.
2 Keep your passports up-to-date. Check the expiration date and renew it if necessary.
3 If you chose to wed in the Caribbean, it is wise to avoid getting married during hurricane season. A wedding requires months of planning, and unfortunately the weather can be very unpredictable.
4 Learn catch phrases and polite greetings in the local language of your destination. The residents will be pleased with your efforts and communication will be easier.
5 Exchange your currency prior to arriving to the wedding destination. Your bank will usually give the best exchange rates.
6 Familiarize yourself with the local customs and proper etiquette of your wedding location. You wouldn’t want to offend anyone!
7 Inquire about the marriage laws in the country of your choice. Some countries can be very restricting and require preparation well in advance.
8 It is highly recommended to hire a wedding consultant in the location of your choice. He or she will guide you in choosing the best site and vendors for your wedding.
9 Pack your necessary items well in advance. There’s no turning back if you forget something, so create a detailed list of everything you need.
10 Many locations abroad provide discounts for weddings. If a discount isn’t explicitly stated, don’t be shy to ask for one. After all, you’ll be providing them with lots of business.
