Prepare for choosing a honeymoon destination*

There are a multitude of destinations to visit on your honeymoon, but they must meet at least one single requirement: be romantic. The sweetest time for a couple calls for an environment that eliminates stress caused by wedding planning and that prepares both of you for your life as newlyweds.

To choose the destination

  • 1 Before choosing which country to go to on your honeymoon, be sure to research its security. On the Internet you can find exhaustive lists of areas that are considered high risk.
2 It is also necessary to consider if the customs, politics, and religion are compatible with your idea of a honeymoon.
3 In many countries they will ask you for special documentation to enter. Be informed of what paperwork is necessary before booking because vaccinations might even be required. This might not be possible if you are under certain treatments or have an illness.
4 Take into account that if you are planning on becoming parents during your trip or on your return, you will have to wait some time before this can happen since some vaccines are unsafe during pregnancy.

Prepare for the Trip
Health

  • 1 Whatever your destination will be, you must subscribe to medical or health insurance.
2 It is also advisable to take a small first aid kit with medicine and basic products. It is necessary to include analgesics, antibiotics, antihistamines, medicine for stomach problems, sterilized gauzes, scissors, and a thermometer.

Security

  • 1 Before leaving on your trip and if you have chosen a destination based on tourism, always take the address for the Embassy or Consulate of your country in that region.
2 In case you are mugged or lose your travel documents it is advisable to make photocopies of your plane ticket and passport. Take two original copies in your carry-on and put copies in your luggage as well. As soon as you get to the hotel place the originals in the safety. The copies will allow you to go about the country with ease.

Luggage

  • 1 Pack your bags using common sense. The most practical thing to do is to be informed about the weather as well as the country’s customs. It is recommended to take cotton undergarments that won’t get wrinkled or dirty easily.
2 If you want to move around discretely, avoid wearing the tourist sign on your forehead and do not wear shorts with socks or other distinctive outfits. Learn about the country’s customs and dress accordingly

Money

  • 1 This is one of the biggest questions asked on trips. Cash, traveler’s checks, credit cards? It is ideal to take all of them. Although you should never walk around with a lot of cash in your pockets, it is convenient to take a small amount for some expenses.
2 It is highly recommended to exchange your money to the local currency before leaving in case banks are closed upon your arrival. Usually you will also get better exchange rates in your bank before leaving.
3 Once you reach the country, get informed about tipping and exchange rates. They tend to vary in each region.
4 Also take into account the strength of each currency: in some countries inflation is so high that money loses value from one day to another. In these cases, it is better to make the exchange a little at a time and not in large amounts.
5 All banks and even some travel agencies sell traveler’s checks. They can be emitted in any currency and once you reach your destination they can be exchanged for money. It is the safest and most recommended form of payment because if they are stolen or lost they can easily be replaced.
6 It is convenient to keep the numbers of the checks in a safe place as well as the original copy of purchase. Besides, in some countries it is more favorable to exchange money than to pay in cash.
7 Credit cards are very convenient for buying and paying. Some places charge a little more, although these are very few and the exchange rate applied is more favorable.
8 It is more expensive to get your money from an ATM since commission is pretty high. If your debit card is stolen or lost you must report it immediately to your financial entity.

During the Trip

  • 1 "When in Rome do as the Romans." Showing respect for laws and customs in the area will be the best card you can play upon your stay and will be an authentic way to stay out of trouble.
2 If you are robbed the first thing you should do is report it to the police and then address your country’s embassy or consulate.
3 In case you get detained, ask the local authorities to immediately contact your country’s consulate.
4 Make sure to confirm your return flight with three days notice.
